Awesome news: the much hoped-for lunch program at T.E.A.R.S. School is becoming a reality! A recent partnership has been developing between Battalion Park School in Alberta, Canada and our school here in the barrio.

Elizabeth teaches a grade three class in her home city of Calgary, and has also been down to the Dominican on several short term trips. She has really developed a heart for the ministry and has now forged a connection between her school and ours.

Elizabeth had her kids doing extra jobs and chores to earn money to support T.E.A.R.S. School, but they ended up raising so much that they decided to use what was left over to sponsor lunch every Wednesday. “We really want our students to think of the kids in the [Dominican Republic] as friends, and develop a partnership with the school,” Elizabeth wrote in a recent e-mail. “We are reminding kids, as they eat lunch on Wednesdays, to think of their friends in the D.R. being able to have lunch too.”

Among other activities, Elizabeth’s students shoveled snow, babysat, or did dishes- anything that was outside of their normal responsibilities. I think I speak for all the staff at T.E.A.R.S. School when I say we are very grateful for all the work and support that is coming from generous helpers in Canada and the U.S. The morning we heard the good news, all the teachers were cheering and hollering in the office. They began elbowing one another playfully, discussing how excited the children will be to be receiving a hearty meal after a morning of hard work and study. For everyone down here, this is a dream come true. Things are taking shape and moving forward and we give God the glory. Bit by bit- or leap by leap- slowly and quickly, he is restoring this world in wisdom beyond understanding.
