On Sunday, March 2, the congregation of El Camino held a meeting, addressing their vision and current ministries. Things kicked off with worship and the question: How do you see the church right now and how would you like to see it?

It was a much-needed reunion after a long hiatus. There had been a lack of communication for a while, and it was interesting to watch them reflect on their direction as a church, what God is teaching them and where God is guiding them. They feel a deep need for more profound unity, and want to focus on spending a year talking through things and reaching a common aim within the body.

El Camino has seen a lack of close community in the past, and for this reason there have been miscommunications and misunderstandings between the believers. It was really positive for them to be able to work through, wrestle with and clarify various issues, as well as raise awareness about what is currently going on in the various ministries of El Camino and what their most urgent needs are.

Among some of the ministries at El Camino are: Women’s Ministry, Water Provision, Kid’s Church, Social Outreach, Worship, Soccer, Haitian Cell Group, Photography/Multimedia, Youth Girls Ministry (Mujercitas) and Construction. The discussion was dynamic and lengthy; it was clear that many things had to be brought to the table. Fe and Bau did a great job of leading and organizing discussions, making sure everybody had an opportunity to share and listen as well.

God is alive and working in this group of Christians in the barrio of Maria Auxiliadora, bringing them to realize their need for him and one another. This meeting was an awesome beginning to a future full of potential. I encourage you to pray for this church as they seek vision and clarity from the LORD- that he would give them a scripture-grounded purpose and weave them together like a tapestry, an interdependent counter-culture reflecting the glory of God and his Kingdom.
