Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth it and then…
Last August after arriving from a much anticipated field trip to the zoo and aquarium with my teaching staff, I wondered. Was that worth it? I had expected enthusiasm, cheers of gratefulness and songs of praise. Instead it was long faces, complaints and weary eyes.

Then, a few weeks ago, two of those teachers asked if they could take their kids on the trip. You want to recreate that trip? I thought. “Yes!” was the reply. They were bursting with the excitement of plans and preparation. Thursday the second and third grade classes went to the aquarium and the zoo. They are still talking about it. What a great success it was! I was affirmed in our efforts to model and expose, as the teachers who recreated our trip were excited to do.

What made the difference? I wondered….the kids of course! While a good night sleep never hurts the kids give you an energy that I wish you could bottle. They inspire us to really see things and enjoy the moment. They show us how to live in so many ways and are a window to God.
