Editor’s note: this blog was written before the impact of the tornado.
When God put it on my heart to use soccer as an evangelistic tool, I couldn’t imagine the impact it could have on the community. Yet now I can see that God can use the things that are not very common, and are sometimes even impossible, to have a great impact on people’s lives.

So far God has allowed me to work with soccer teams for boys and girls, teenagers, and grown men, both Dominican and Haitian. There are even a small group of women who want to start practicing with us. I am very happy about this, because each person that comes to the practices gets the opportunity to hear about Jesus, the gospel, and the only one who can change their lives. It’s obvious that God is behind this soccer program and is opening doors for it to grow.

The Dominican Soccer Federation heard about this project and is excited about it as well. Also, two of the kids on the youth team, (Idekel and Waly) who have been practicing for a small amount of time (Waly has only been playing soccer for 8 months), were seen by the vice president of the Soccer Federation of La Vega and were chosen to play on the team for their age group that represents the whole province of La Vega. They are both presently in the capital playing at the National Games.
My dream is that God change the future of this community, and that it would no longer be known as “a community full of crime, drugs, and thieves.” Our hope is that it will be known as a place where there are people who God used to change the future of their country, a people who love and worship God. It’s also my desire to use the musical gift God has given me to teach those who want to learn, with the goal that they will use it as a tool to worship our God.

I ask for your prayer that God will continue impacting the lives of all the boys, girls, men, and women that are involved in these soccer teams, that they would fall in love with Jesus, and that God would provide for all our needs to run the program. We also pray that God will give other people in the church the heart to take advantage of this tool in order to expand the kingdom of God.

By Obed: The arrival of our baby Zion has been a great blessing from God. It is definitely something that marks our lives. Seeing this miracle of life that God has put together in such perfection (cells, muscles, organs, etc.) is something that takes our breath away. It helps us understand the great love of our Father, our engineer of synchronized perfection, as well as see how small we are. Psalms 127:3-4 talks about what a son is and the inheritance of God. Something that got my attention in verse 4 is when the metaphor compares a son with an arrow. I can imagine this situation, a brave archer with arrows in his hands who obviously needs a target to aim the arrows at. It’s my prayer and desire that God helps us point our arrow (Zion) towards the only target that has any value, that he will be filled and flooded with love. This target, the perfect target, is our God.
By Rosmary: The birth of Zion reminds me of the story of Hannah in 1 Samuel:2 when she rejoiced in the Lord for the gift that he had given her to be able to have a baby boy. Now that God has given me the great privilege to be a mother I can understand the joy and thankfulness Hannah felt. Zion has come to occupy an important place in my heart. I’m so thankful to God for my baby. So often I can’t even find words to express how thankful I am to God for my baby. Just as Samuel (Hannah’s boy) served the Lord, I believe that my boy Zion will serve Him as well.
