So there is a new(ish) face around T.E.A.R.S.: me. It may seem sort of self-involved to introduce myself and to do so in the T.E.A.R.S. blog but since I will be coordinating various communications projects I thought I better start communicating.
I first had the privilege of visiting T.E.A.R.S. ministry here in the Dominican Republic (DR) in August 2007. I joined a team from Varsity Bible Church (Calgary, Canada) on a 10 day project. I loved it. I got to work side-by-side with talented crew of photographers and dramatizers (word?) learning from each other and exploring new ways of seeing and expressing who God is. My time here seemed to capture so many aspects of what I love and have a vision for.
Q:Hmmmm…can I come back?
With this curious question in mind, I started to snoop around and see if there was a way to come back. So, after thinking through some ideas with Rod and Tracy I was able to come back to the DR and live with a family here in the barrio (Moreno & Tigua Inoa). It was an amazing four months (December through March) of learning & exploring (language, culture, new foods!, new friendships, and ministry).
Now, I am back and this time for a full year. (Aside: After two weeks back, and living on my own, I am quickly making new friends with neighbors so I can learn how to cook all the great food I once just sat down to. How did it always just magically appear before me? I miss it, Tigua!) The opportunity be a part of God’s activity in and through T.E.A.R.S. is one I am truly grateful for. Following various short-term missions experiences, school + school + school, and freelance photography work, I am excited about how my role here allows me to combine past experiences and opportunities while embracing new challenges ahead.
I look forward to helping keep you connected to T.E.A.R.S. ministry through words + images. Of course, nothing is quite like coming down and visiting.

Word primo! You’re gonna tear it up. I’ll be checking out your blogs when I’m in Vancouver next year.

Darin I am so happy for you. I am glad things worked out for you to go back and be a part of this awesome community. And, yes, you were spoiled to be living with Tigua for four months. That would be some pretty high standards to live up to for cooking. Her reputation precedes her. Look forward to hearing your stories and the entries from the other TEARS members. El dios te bendice todos.
