Mother’s Day Celebration

Last Friday was a very special day for the mothers of the students at T.E.A.R.S. School. By eleven, the third level had filled with chairs and chatter, excitement and anticipation. The students of our kinder class were led to the front and began the celebration with song and poetry. Every class had something unique and uplifting to present. The mothers beamed with delight as they watched their children perform, lifting their voices and reciting what they had learned, all in the name of Mother’s Day.

Once all the processions had passed, flowers were handed out personally to every mother from every student, accompanied by hugs. This day was an opportunity for children to give something back; a symbol of thankfulness for all the investments of love that their mothers have made; the caring and irreplaceable impact that they have made; feeding them, teaching them and pouring themselves into the growth of these little ones.

It was inspiring to see, and as I reflect on the great exchange of joy that took place last week, I am reminded of what Proverbs 23:25 expresses: “May your father and mother be glad; may she who gave you birth rejoice!” What a meaningful gift to these mothers in the barrio; may they treasure such moments forever.
