Summer Teams Make Lasting Difference

A big thank you to all the teams that came down here this summer! Just over a week ago we said goodbye to a 13 member team from Calgary, Alberta; now we’re recovering a bit from the busy summer as well as reminiscing about all the good times we had. What a great summer! A lot was accomplished, both in terms of work projects; such as fixing up falling down homes, building needed additions on the Haitian center land, etc; and in terms of community activities; such as kids outreaches, puppet training, eye clinic, teacher training and more. However, the best part about this summer was that a lot of quality relationships were formed. Not just with the visiting team members and the TEARS team, but also relationships between the visiting team members and the churches they worked with and between the TEARS team members and the leaders at the churches we worked with. We’re still learning how can we make relationship the center of short term mission trips and not just projects and events, and personally I feel that this summer was a step in the right direction. Thank you for all the teams that have partnered with local Dominican bodies of believers as well as the communities they live in, making an effort to really get to know and train them instead of just doing things for them. I hope all the teams that came down this summer will return next year as well!
